Big Cow was one of the leading Arapaho chief to attached George Custer's 7th Cavalry during the 1868 war. He is generally credited with killing Major Joel Eliott in November 1868. His band camped at Ft. Sill during the winter of 1889. The donor, Bessie Hart, is the granddaughter of Big Cow and Pernabtty. She lives in Geronimo, Oklahoma.
