May Schofield was born in Humansville, Missouri on March 28, 1894. She was educated in Missouri, and graduated from Lawton High School in 1912. May was employed by Security Bank & Trust from 1920-1945; then she was self-employed. She speaks about her early life, "My father died in El Paso, Texas, in May 1902. Mother took his remains and children back to Missouri from which we came. We live there three years, then mother decided for the opportunities of Oklahoma so we moved to Lawton in the summer of 1905."
